C20 - Site of the town of Pleyto

C20 - Site of the town of Pleyto - The town now "sleeps with the fishes". It lay approximately 2/3ds of the way across the lake, between the river and the knoll you see on the other side of the water above. Pleyto was a livery stable stop on the stage route up the El Camino Real, which wound its way up the river canyon to the San Antonio Mission. The Pleyto Cemetery was moved up to Copperhead Canyon when the dam was built in the late 50's. The Harris family would drive down Copperhead Canyon to Pleyto, then across the valley to the county road where they'd turn north to King City or south to Paso Robles. The El Camino Real road was already decrepit by Wayne's boyhood. (35.86194683, -120.9952619)
